God says that he will gather the Jews from all the nations and from among all the heathen or worshippers of other gods and bring the Jews back to their own land of Israel in the last days or the tribulation and the early part of the Messianic Age. This will be in preparation for God to pour his Holy Spirit into the hearts of all the remaining Jewish people as part of His then established New Covenant relationship with them. God will with this pouring out of His Holy Spirit into the hearts of all the Jews or his chosen earthly people, cleanse them from all their relation to idols and filthiness including immorality. God will also give the Jews a new heart and a new spirit in their hearts and take away their stubborn or stony hearts that they and we have from natural birth. God will instead give them a heart of flesh or a heart teachable or receptive to God's will impressed on them by His Holy Spirit. This is part of the New Covenant or New Testament especially for the Jews in the Messianic Age but it has also been realized to some extent with born again or true Christians in the present Church Age but awaits a complete fulfillment in the Messianic Age especially with Israel. Although it is not mentioned here and the promise of the land would not apply to them God will also put His Holy Spirit in the hearts of believing Gentiles who endure the tribulation with trusting in Jesus and His word and by not worshipping the beast or his image or taking his mark. These will also be conditions that will need to be met by those Jews who survive the tribulation and go in to populate the earth in their mortal bodies in the Messianic Age. Finally God says that with His indwelling Holy Spirit in believing Jews (and believing Gentiles) in the Messianic Age he will automatically cause them to walk in his statutes (during the Messianic Age) and keep his judgments. There is also a similiar situation with the true Church of believing Jews and Gentiles or people of the nations in this present Church Age who have trusted in Jesus and are trying to walk in the Spirit. The scripture reference from Ezekiel 36 of the indwelling ministry of the Holy Spirit especially in Jews in the Messianic Age as a characteristic of the New Covenant is as follows:
For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land. Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. Ezekiel 36:24-27
God says here in Zechariah 12 that he will pour out his Holy Spirit on the house of David and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem the spirit of grace and supplications which is the Holy Spirit or Spirit of God. Although in this verse only the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem are mentioned but in the continuing context of this passage the scripture says the effect of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit will affect all the families of the Jews so this is probably a reference to all the Jews in the land of Israel and even any that might still be in other areas of the world then. This pouring out of the Holy Spirit on all the Jews that survive the tribulation will prepare them to be priests and ministers for God like the scripture says will be their role in the Messianic Kingdom or Millennial Kingdom in the book of Isaiah (Isaiah 61:6) and to have these Jews prepared for eternity after the Messianic Kingdom. The first effect of God pouring out His Holy Spirit on the Jews at Jesus the Messiah's second coming will be to convict them that Jesus of Nazareth was indeed their prophesied Messiah and the marks he will still have of the piercing in his side and hands and feet will be evidence of his suffering for the sins of the Jewish people and the rest of the world and that this suffering was at the hand of the Jews as well as non-Jews represented by the Romans. This pouring out conviction by the Holy Spirit of the Jews' part in putting Jesus their Messiah to death will cause the third or so Jews that survive the tribulation to realize, have deep remorse for and confess their sin in having a primary part in putting Jesus the Messiah and SAviour of the world to death on the cross and this would include asking God's forgiveness for their part in this offence which God will grant and allow them to be His exalted and blessed chosen earthly people in all the blessings of His covenenants with them through Abraham, Moses and David as will as the New Covenant through Jesus the Messiah in the Messianic Kingdom or Millennial Kingdom and under at least the New Covenant for eternity. It is partly in an effort to prevent these blessings for the Jewish people and the rest of the world through them in the Messianic Kingdom that Satan is now increasingly causing anti-semitic hatred, bias and even violence in the world and that will unfortunately reach its height in the 7 year tribulation, 70th week of Daniel or time of Jacob's trouble before God through His Messiah Jesus of Nazareth delivers the Jews from their persecutors for good in the Messianic Kingdoam and then for eternity. The scripture reference of God pouring out His Holy Spirit on the Jewish people at the second coming of His Son Jesus Christ the Jewish Messiah to prepare them to enjoy the blessings of God's Covenants with them as the first nation on earth and as God's then fully purged and restored chosen earthly people in Zechariah 12 is as follows:
And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. Zechariah 12:10
God says he will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. It should be noticed that although the house of Israel or the ten tribes were less faithful to God in the time of the divided kingdom and went into captivity first and some people consider them lost or forsaken by God. However God here says he will not only bring them back in the last days but make His new covenant (testament) with the ten tribes of Israel as well as the house of Judah or together all Israel in the Messianic Age or Millenial Kingdom of God through Messiah (Christ) Jesus. This scripture passage is repeated almost word for word in Hebrews 8 in the New Testament and applied to the Church perhaps especially the Jewish part of it. However this New Covenant still has its fullest fulfillment waiting especially for the Jews but also for the Gentiles in the Messianic Age. God says this New Covenant will be not broken by Israel like the Mosaic covenant involving the Law of Moses was when God brought Israel out of the land of Egypt through the wilderness to the land of Israel. However Israel will be faithful to keep the New Covenant and honour God with it in the Messianic Age. God says He will put his law in their inward parts and write it on their hearts instead of expecting them to try to keep the law from external guidelines like the priests, prophets, kings and judges. The means by which God will write His law on the hearts of His chosen earthly people the Jews (and also believing Gentiles) in the Messianic Age will be to send His Holy Spirit. God's Holy Spirit will indwell the new hearts of all surviving believing Jews and Gentiles from the tribulation who are then allowed to populate the earth in the Messianic Age with mortal bodies. This indwelling of the Holy Spirit writing God's law on the believers' hearts will also make it unnecessary as in the Old Testament under the Law of Moses for the Israelites to urge each other to know the Lord. This will come spontaneously for all of them and believing Gentiles in the Messianic Age. As part of the blessing on the Jews and believing Gentiles as part of His indwelling by His Holy Spirit under the New Covenant (Testament) in the Messianic Age God will also forgive and forget all their sins. In the New Testament and some other references in the Old Testament especially Jesus said at the Last Supper at a Passover Supper that the wine in the cup or cup of redemption was a symbol of His blood of the New Testament (Covenant). Jesus the Messiah's blood was shed on the cross at Calvary for many for the remission (forgiveness) of sins will also be the means of God also forgiving the sins of believing Jews (and believing Gentiles or people of the nations) in the Messianic Age. The scripture reference in Jeremiah 31 of the Holy Spirit being given to write God's laws on (especially Jewish) believers' hearts, and cause them to know God in a personal way and have His forgiveness under the New Covenant (Testament) is as follows:
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts: and will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Jeremiah 31:31-34
God promises that after the tribulation against Israel and Messiah Jesus will deliver them from the armies of the nations at His Second Coming with God the Father (the LORD), the holy angels and Church Age saints and tribulation martyrs and Old Testament saints. After this God promises Heand His Messiah Jesus will give Israel abundance of food and other things and peace and much joy and reason to praise God for His goodness in the Messianic Age. God will also take away all the shame that Israel endured in the tribulation and will ensure they won't be ashamed again. God says He meaning God the Father and His Messiah Jesus will be in the midst of His earthly people Israel and that He is their God and that they never will be ashamed again. God the Father (the LORD) and His Messiah Jesus will dwell in the Messianic Age or Ezekiel's Temple in the Holy Place in the midst of His people in Jerusalem in Israel in the Messianic Age or Millennial Kingdom. Then when God has delivered the Jews by Jesus' second coming and brought them to their land of Israel and is dwelling in the Messianic Age temple in the midst of the land and people of Israel God will pour out His Holy Spirit on all flesh. This means God will pour out His Holy Spirit on all the people living on earth including all the Gentiles or people of the nations that were faithful to God in the tribulation not just on the Jews. God then promises there will be in people of all nations in the Messianic Age a dramatic or dynamic effect on the sons and daughters of all nations. God will cause this to result in their prophesying, old men dreaming dreams, young men seeing visions and God also pouring out His Holy Spirit on the servants and handmaids (female servants) of not just the Jews but all believers in the Messianic Age. The many different groups of people affected by the pouring out of the Holy Spirit mentioned here is meant to describe the pouring out of the Holy Spirit as a universal phenomena in the Messianic Age. The apostle Peter used this scripture in Acts 2 on the Day of Pentecost at the beginning of the Church Age to describe the pouring out of the Holy Spirit on the first Christians who formed the beginnning of the Church of Jesus Christ (Messiah). However the final and more complete fulfillment of this scripture in Joel will be on the Jews and the nations in the Messianic Age. There are many reasons for this last statement but one significant reason is that at Pentecost God the Father in His glory was not dwelling in the Temple in Jerusalem or was Israel in a state of abundance, independence and blessing of God as will be the case when the Holy Spirit is poured on all flesh in the Messianic Age or Millennial Kingdom of Jesus Christ (Messiah). The scripture reference for God blessing Israel and dwelling in the midst of her when He pours out His Holy Spirit on all flesh in the Messianic Age in Joel 2 is as follows:
And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed. And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed. And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. Joel 2:26-29
